"Just because I've written that many songs [750] doesn't mean anything. But imagine if you were having an operation on your brain and a 60-year-old surgeon walked into the theatre. You would think, I'm in safe hands. He's been doing this all his life and he's very good at it. I think I have become very good at pulling lyrics and melodies out of the air."

Some would say that Steve Kilbey is a modern embodiment of a renaissance man, and with a long and renowned career as a painter, writer and songwriter/musician to boast of, we wouldn't disagree. Steve is perhaps best known for the psychedelic rock band the Church, the band he started, was the lead singer of and the predominant songwriter also.

We are thrilled to have Steve perform once again at the Starfish Club, and thrilled also to have as special guest playing keys, Roger Mason (Icehouse, the Models and a highly awarded screen composer), Oliver Thorpe (Tim Freedman, Ian Moss, Meg Mac) and of course the Starfish rhythm section of Jonathan Zwartz and Hamish Stuart.

We are excited to celebrate Steve's undeniable creative genius with this fantastic line up of musicians on Monday 8th of April at the Starfish Club.

There was no greater champion of the Starfish Club than Mauricio de Souza (Mori) who passed away at the height of Covid on Good Friday 2021,  from a long illness that he had determinedly kept at bay with his trademark indefatigable zest for life. Positive to the end, Mori defied and outlived all expectations.

We loved Mori at the Starfish, having first met him at the legendary Bronte cafe that he started with his partner Fiona Baxter.

We miss Mori and are now taking the opportunity to acknowledge him with a program of music celebrating his Brazilian roots and his general love of good music.

We have put together a line up of fantastic musicians  - Vocalists Tiago de Lucca, Virna Sanzone and Magdelena Mira will be joined by Miro Bukovsky on trumpet and James Greening on trombone, along with Marcello Maio on keys, Fabian Hevia on percussion, Jonathan Zwartz on double bass and Hamish Stuart on drums and percussion.

For our last Starfish Concert of 2023 we present a 'very Mori Christmas' featuring songs from Brazil, to do him proud.

Doors at 6pm with food available then, music starts at 7pm.

The Starfish Kitchen will be open - We can't even attempt to make his famous chicken pies but Wendy will have her nearly famous green chicken curry on the menu.

Come and join us as we give Mori's memory a blast of good music.
